        原名Carlos Augusto Selva Santana 1947年出生于墨西哥，父亲为小提琴乐手，Carlos从小就耳孺目染，5岁开始学小提琴，8岁开始学吉他，也自小立志期望长大后以音乐维生。高中毕业后在几年的打工及业余乐手生涯后，1967年Carlos Santana组成了Carlos Santana Blues Band(Santana乐团前身)，2年后并很幸运得到了在1969年传奇音乐盛会Woodstock上表演的机会，Santana在演唱会中让人印象深刻且难忘的表演，让他一举成名并获得唱片合约。

        70年代是Santana音乐事业的黄金年代，在70年代发行12张专辑，算是多产的艺人，在美国销售量不是白金唱片就是金唱片，其中专辑Abraxas(1970)及Santana III(1971)在美国都拿下专辑榜冠军，是70年代在美国最成功的几个乐团之一。进入80年代，虽然Santana仍致力于实验性音乐创作，但随着市场口味变化，商业成绩每下愈况，情况延续到90年代，看来Sanatana也不敌时代的潮流，将淹没于新的电子音乐风潮下。



        90年代末期年，Sanatana重新出发，这次找了多位年轻一代乐手合作，包括了Everlast, Rob Thomas, Eric Clapton, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, Cee-Lo, Maná, Dave Matthews, KC Porter, JB Eckl等，将原有擅长的拉丁摇滚曲风注入新的活力，1999年新专辑"Supernatural"发行，出乎意料外大受欢迎，专辑在全世界几个主要的唱片市场全获冠军，在美国席卷15白金1500万的销售量(全世界约2700万张)，与Rob Thomas合作的主打单曲"Smooth"更获得Billboard单曲榜12周冠军，而且是20世纪Billboard最后一首冠军曲也是21世纪第一首冠军曲，在Top 10榜中停留30周，"Smooth"被Billboard杂志选为50年来冠军曲中最受欢迎歌曲第二名，也是摇滚乐曲中第一名，2000年葛莱美奖，Santana破纪录的囊括9项大奖，为当年最大赢家，而Carlos Santana更在2003年被滚石杂志选为有史以来100大吉它手第15名。

Santana - Smooth ft. Rob Thomas

        Santana擅长结合拉丁音乐及摇滚乐，乐风轻快、节奏性十足，就如同其他吉他大师般，他的吉它旋律辨识度极高，首次听到的歌曲很容易就让人认出是Santana的作品，"Smooth"也不例外，虽然词曲皆是Rob Thomas及Itaal Shur创作，但是从吉它前奏一响起就让人知道这是Santana演奏的，而当年已52岁的Santana演奏起来仍如同多年来的风格，指法轻快、精准而干净俐落，岁月似乎对Santana的吉他技巧并未造成困扰，反而更加精湛。
